Every blog post of mine usually starts with something along the lines of “I am the world’s worst blogger” – so I have vowed to try harder.
Let’s make me the world’s second worst blogger! Honestly, I am making a change, starting now. This special family means a lot to me, and not just because they scream gorgeous in these photos.
Let’s start by introducing this firecracker, Leona.
I don’t think I need any words to describe her. Just look. Her face says it all.
I took my son at the Butterfly House one day back when he was a wee walking toddler. This vivacious girl sprinted up to my son, grabbed him by the hand, and dragged him mercilessly around. My stubborn, chubby, clumsy boy didn’t even know what to do with himself, but he loved her…and that was the beginning of a friendship.
Meanwhile, I am checking out Leona’s mom. Not in that way…but as in the way only a photographer would. (Hmmmmmm nice…I mean camera. Ooooh, I drool over your lens.)
Sure enough, she turned out to be an amazingly talented photographer, who similarly at the time, was in the early days of running a business. Well hello new friend! Karen, of Karen Renee Photography, and I have endured the trials and tribulations of starting a photo business with a young kid at home, and we have had oh-too-much to laugh about, now that we have grown into our own.
She is one tough cookie who has endured some busy years since we’ve met, having moved out of St. Louis back to Illinois, having her husband Josh gone often with a drastic career change, and having built a new home to call their own. I truly admire her strength and perseverance.
So, without further ado…
It warms my heart to see them all together.
My kids were at the park with us, and Karen shot some stunning portraits of them. Check them out.
In between frames, my little Eva would run off with Leona – our mischief makers unite!
